KBR to Provide License & Basic Engineering Design for Ammonia Plant Revamp in Hungary

KBR has recently announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide a License and Basic Engineering Design Package as part of the Ammonia Plant Revamp for capacity increase at reduced energy consumption by Nitrogenmuvek in the city of Petfurdo, Hungary.

KBR will increase ammonia capacity for a 1970s vintage-designed plant from originally 1000 tonnes per day (mtpd) to 1650 mtpd. As a leading supplier of ammonia process technologies, KBR has been involved in the licensing, design, engineering and/or construction of more than 200 ammonia plants worldwide, representing approximately half of current global ammonia production.

“Our goal in this revamp project is to enable Nitrogenmuvek to extract the maximum possible performance from their KBR-designed ammonia plants,” said John Derbyshire, President, KBR Technology. “This contract represents an opportunity for KBR to further expand its footprint in the rapidly increasing ammonia revamp business.”

Foster Wheeler Acquires Pharma/Biotech Construction Management Company

Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) announced today that it has acquired Yonkers Industries, Inc., a 30-year-old US-based firm that specializes in the management of construction and commissioning of pharmaceutical and biotech facilities, with capabilities to also manage the full EPCm (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) of such facilities.

With offices in California, North Carolina and Puerto Rico, Yonkers Industries has approximately 200 professionals. Through its participation in a project-services partnership called Modular Partners, Yonkers also has the ability to provide modular project delivery services on a worldwide basis.

“The acquisition of Yonkers Industries gives our pharmaceutical business a construction management capability in North America,” said Kent Masters, Chief Executive Officer of Foster Wheeler AG. “Yonkers has a global reputation for excellence in contract execution, and the addition of this construction management capability immediately strengthens our value proposition to pharmaceutical and biotech clients.”

Technip awarded an important contract by BASF for a chemical project in Germany

Technip, in a consortium with Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation Japan, has been awarded by BASF S.E. a lump sum turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, for the expansion project of a chlorine plant (chlor-alkali). The plant is situated in Ludwigshafen, Germany, BASF’s largest production site worldwide.

The work will include a membrane chlorine plant expansion as well as the integration and implementation of existing equipment and facilities.  Technip will be responsible for the complete EPC execution of the project using Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation’s technology and proprietary equipment. The project is scheduled to start up in the second semester of 2014.

Technip’s operating center in Düsseldorf, Germany will execute the project. This contract reinforces our relationship with BASF and provides it with access to Technip’s extensive expertise in the chemical sector. This award follows the successful execution of the conversion project in 2002 as well as the pre front-end engineering design (FEED) and the FEED phases of the Ludwigshafen project, which were also carried out by Technip.

Technip awarded contract by GDF SUEZ E&P UK for the Juliet project

Technip has been awarded by GDF SUEZ E&P UK Limited an engineering, procurement, installation and construction contract for the Juliet project, located 40 kilometers East of the Humberside estuary, at a water depth of approximately 20 to 60 meters.

This contract, which is a tie-back to the Pickerill A platform, will cover the installation of a:

  • 12” 22-kilometer rigid flowline(1),
  • 22 kilometer static controls umbilical(2),
  • 12” riser(3),
  • 16” J-Tube assembly,
  • 100-ton manifold(4).

Technip’s operating centers in Aberdeen, Scotland and in Oslo, Norway will work in conjunction to deliver this project. The offshore campaign is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013 and will use vessels from the Technip fleet, including the Apache II and Normand Pioneer.

SNC-LAVALIN awarded general Engineering Services Contract in Saudi Arabia

SNC-Lavalin has announced that it has been awarded a General Engineering Services Contract by Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), a joint venture between the Aramco Gulf Operations Company (AGOC) and the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC). The five-year contract will see SNC-Lavalin carry out a range of front-end studies, perform preliminary and detailed engineering, and provide procurement and construction management support for onshore and offshore hydrocarbon and industrial projects. The contract will be carried out from SNC-Lavalin’s office in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and at the Company’s office in London, UK.

“We’re very pleased to secure this contract, which further extends our hydrocarbon footprint with Aramco and provides a first opportunity to work with the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company,” said Ric Sorbo, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. “Our track record in the offshore upstream sector was a key reason for this success.”
